Happier Times

With all the drama surrounding John Galliano's dismissal from Dior, I thought it would be nice to revisit happier times at the couture house. The very talented René Gruau illustrated most of Christian Dior's work, including the distinctive "New Look" in the 1940's. I think his bold black lines against the colorful backgrounds are fantastic. I first saw his illustrations while visiting the museum of Christian Dior in Granville, where there are 12 original pieces. I'll never forget the Relax poster hanging next to the windows overlooking the sea. René Gruau's work most recently inspired Galliano's Spring 2011 collection...which you can watch here.
