Setting the Table for Summer

Nothing says summer tablescape quite like milk glass. Scrounge the flea markets or your granny's butler pantry for cake stands, vases, candy dishes, cream and sugar bowls, or whatever you can find. The options are endless!

Pelican Parade

A wonderful bird is the pelican.

His bill will hold more than his belly can.

He can take in his beak

Enough food for a week,

But I'm damned if I see how the hell he can.

Pocket Problem Fixed!

I found a pair of skinny white jeans with the perfect amount of stretch (1% spandex) but the front pockets were incredibly bulky. To remove the pocket lining, I sewed them shut and cut out the extra fabric. This works well with any kind of pocket, especially ones sewn in the side seams...
1. Pin the front of the pocket to the back lining.
2. Sew over the existing seams.
3. Cut along the seam line.
No bulk!!

One Stop Shopping

I've been on the lookout lately for tops and blouses to tuck into skirts, wear with jeans, or go for strolls in. Just like the ones EmersonMade is doing this season...

Covered in Silk

I love the look of de Gournay hand-painted wallpaper (who doesn't??) but it costs an arm and a leg to do an entire room in it. Covering a screen or framing panels is still an investment, but it's incredible art you can take with you or pass on in the future. There are so many colors and styles to choose from, all painted on silk and customized to your liking. And if you happen to have any left over, they make great looking tablecloths!!

Channeling Gwyneth

I'm convinced everything tastes better while sitting on the kitchen counter!!
Last night after dinner we made Blythe's Blueberry Muffins (not the healthier version) from Gwyneth Paltrow's tasty new cookbook, My Father's Daughter. I've been in a cooking rut lately so I'm hoping Gwyneth can get me out of it. Tonight is butternut squash and homemade vegetable stock with my trusty sous chef.
