Loco For Lemons!!!

Lemon prints are an instant mood booster, especially this time of year with a little bit of breeze and sunshine! The green and yellow color combo is so classic, and surprisingly pairs well with everything in the color wheel!
{Easter 2017}
Last year, I fell in love with this sweet lemon fabric to make for the girls' Easter dresses and it's still one of my favorites! I made myself a skirt out of the coordinating fabric and I've worn it with so many different tops- chambray, white, and this pretty shade of purple.
Unfortunately, Annie's is the only dress that still fits this year!! This is 19 months old-
always blurry:)

Dressing for V-Day!

The older I get, the more I love celebrating Valentine's Day! This year I'll be making the rounds at the kids' class parties, the Ash Wednesday service, and hopefully a quiet dinner at home! Looking back at pictures reminded me how much I already wear red and pink, but you don't have to be head-to-toe heart eyes to get the look!!
My red Old Navy coat paired with a sleeveless navy and white check shirt from Target and white jeans with booties.
My African skirt by lovely Natal, worn with a black scoop neck tee and simple gold earrings. I like to wear it out with chunky heels and a fun red leather clutch!
Classy and casual with a white button-down and pumps like Leandra Medine, or a fun pleated skirt and t-shirt complete with heart glasses on Giovanna.
The first part of my day will be dressed down and kid-craft-friendly, so I think I'll do black and white separates with a pop of pink.
{Black Forever 21 jeans, Wilt White Tee, Pink Pashmina, World Market Hoops, J.Crew Factory Coat}
I love an oversized pink sweater paired with edgy leather pants like Emmanuelle Alt. Or a crisp white button-down shirt tucked into pink trousers with nude heels à la Victoria Beckham.
For an engagement party over the holidays, I raided my MIL's closet and wore my black pants with this silk top and fun Kate Spade heels layered with a long sequined jacket.
We're going on a casual date night, but if I was dressing up I'd love something frilly like this!!
My J.Crew black pants that I wear with EVERYTHING and a fun pop of color with clutches I've made...
I love florals in an unexpected color palette, like this silk Joie dress that I've dressed up or down with flats, sandals, booties, etc...
Zara has SO many floral dresses right now that I'd pair with black booties, inspired by this Olivia Palermo look.
I think turquoise and red can also be a fun combo with black or white thrown in the mix.
 {J.Crew eyelet top and gold earrings, with Mar Y Sol clutch and white jeans}
Chunky vintage necklaces make an all-black ensemble festive, or a fun long dress even more eccentric...
{Black jeans, Rebecca Taylor sweater, Target tank, vintage necklace}
I wish they made this Crewcuts dress in my size! It looks so cute on P, especially with Annie's red leggings and ballet flats!
If you want to add just a touch, I love a bold pink or red lip paired with black and white, like my Target top I got for a steal!

Aunt Lela tied a sweet velvet ribbon around her bun last week and it was so chic!!
An all-white look layered with a pink coat--H&M has so many fun ones on sale- like this pale short version or a bright long one.
New York Fashion Week is in full swing right now, and there's pink and red all over the runways. Literally! Tory Burch lined hers with 14,000 carnations, drawing her inspiration from Jackie O's chic sister Lee Radziwill-

Lela's been living in this FAB coat she got for her birthday, which suits her personality perfectly :) Whatever you decide to wear for Valentine's Day, I hope its a good one!! xoxo

Instant Gratification!!

One of the fastest ways I like to change things up around the house or in my wardrobe is to simply switch up the color! Dyeing is such an inexpensive way to give textiles new life. For this block print tablecloth, the original white and green color way didn't work well in our new house, so it had been tucked away collecting dust.
 {The original version in our old dining room}
I still loved the pattern of the block print, but the white was looking worn out and I couldn't get pink and green out of my head!!
{Petal Pink Rit Dye}
I let the washer fill up with water, soaked the tablecloth so it got evenly wet, and poured the whole bottle of dye in for the soak/wash cycle. Since I didn't want the color to fade or lighten, I hung it up to dry and put it right on my round table. I love seeing the little bit of pink tucked in the corner!!

If you're dyeing a fabric with any color in the background, I like to make sure that it plays nicely with the new dye color.I love the combination of pink and green in all different shades, so I went for the petal pink!!

Another fun print I've dyed is this classic blue and white Waverly toile with Teal Rit Dye.
In our old bedroom, I made "drapes" with fake pinch pleats and curtain rod clips...
The wicker chest was a white hand-me-down that I spray-painted black and updated with gold pulls from Anthropologie.

Purple is one of my favorite colors to dye, because it has so many wonderful shades to play around with. For Christmas a few years ago, I dyed strips of silk and sewed them together to create an ombre effect...
And topped it off with silk flowers!!
Yesterday I pulled out a few of the girls' white dresses that had noticeable stains and did a quick dye bath on the stove.
{Cheap pot I bought at Wal-Mart}
 I filled the pot up with enough water to soak both dresses, then set them aside while I figured out the shade of purple I wanted...
I love how the embroidery and gold specks turned out with the purple!!
Perfect with Annie's little red ballet flats for Valentine's Day :)
A worn-out cream Madewell cardigan I dyed coral-- this post has lots of helpful dyeing tips!!
This summer we played around with tie-dye, which the kids loved!! We used cheap white sheets from Target for P's camp sheets in various colorways...
{Tulip Tye Dye Kit from Michael's}
This white tee had seen better days, so Lela tie-dyed it by herself and it was so cute with a simple white linen skirt!
The options are ENDLESS with dyeing, you just have to go for it!! xoxo
