Roman Holiday is one of my all time favorites and the woman responsible for Audrey Hepburn's look is the talented Ms. Edith Head. The award-winning costume designer dressed stars like Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor and also wrote two successful books on style. How to Dress for Success was written in the 1960s and covers topics like How to Dress to Get a Man...and Keep Him, and The "Successories" of Your Wardrobe. Her writing and illustrations, like the ones below, are witty and still relevant today.
Her other best-selling book, The Dress Doctor, has returned in a special edition with timeless wardrobe advice and her tips on developing one's personal style. If you haven't seen Edith Head work her magic on screen, I highly recommend To Catch a Thief and Sabrina. Absolutely delightful!
