WIKSTEN+made

I have a terrible time sewing for myself with patterns. All that crinkly paper, confusing instructions, oddly-marked sizes...makes me cringe just thinking about them! I'm hoping these wiksten patterns can break my spell of bad luck. I just ordered the tank top + dress and if all goes well I'm trying the tova top + dress pattern next. Wish me luck!

Stems and Sequins

One of the many simple and brilliant ideas in Decorate by Holly Becker. The hardest part would be deciding what sequins to use!

Currently Loving: Striped Blazers

September might be my least favorite month to dress for...it still feels very much like summer but mentally I've moved onto Fall. Enter the striped blazer: a total game changer! I can wear it with dresses now and jeans and boots if it ever cools down. I spotted this one at Zara, with it's little blue details and inside stitching, and it's completely brightened up my closet. I highly recommend trying one!!

Guest Post: Silver Décor

Hi, I'm Susi, a writer at Design Shuffle, a fantastic social media site where you can browse tens of thousands of design projects from designers and design lovers from around the world. I'm happy to be visiting J.W.K. today and writing about stunning silver décor. I'm a huge fan of gray as a neutral, and silver is a great complement to gray and other neutrals. From shiny metallics to tarnished silver, here are some of my favorite rooms with silver decorating ideas...
Decorating Ideas
If gray is the new neutral, then silver leaf furniture is the new giltwood. Like gold leafing, you can silver leaf furniture and décor as a DIY project. This chest of drawers looks fantastic against the graphic modern wallpaper.
Decorating Ideas
Silver, white and tan make for a sophisticated palette. Love the silver pouf and bowl that add sparkle. The warm gray of the desk nicely offsets the silver framed artwork.
Decorating Ideas
A French arm chair silver leafed and upholstered in pink zebra is a big design statement in the hall. The antique silver mirror, metal gueridon, and mercury glass add further elements of silver décor to the room.
Decorating Ideas
Diamond stamped stainless steel is a sparkling silver accent in this contemporary modern kitchen. The stainless appliances and metal cabinet pulls add additional silver accents. Have to love the clever kitchen design ideas in this space.
Decorating Ideas
Love the silver trays mounted above the hood in this cream kitchen design. This is a great way to use silver-plate trays that add a nice touch of silver in a modern farmhouse kitchen.
Decorating Ideas
Mercury glass is a wonderful way to bring silver décor into a room. Vintage mercury glass is highly collectible but these votives are a stylish DIY project.
Decorating Ideas
Metallic silver upholstery on the bench and pillows add silvery sparkle to this chic and sophisticated bedroom design. Nailhead trim on the upholstered headboard coordinates with the silver bedside table lamps. Gorgeous.
Decorating Ideas
A classic metal chair gets a sophisticated makeover in a silvery finish. Paired with a silver vase, both look stunning against a pearl finish lavender wallpaper.

We're Back!

It's always a bit of a culture shock coming home from Jackson Hole. The scenery, hikes and wildlife are pretty hard to beat. We squeezed in a quick trip to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful, caught the boat across Jenny Lake, and P rode her first horse (sans merry-go-round). The highlight of the trip was celebrating my sister's birthday and spending time with friends and family. No doubt I'm not quite ready to be back!!

Rent House: Part IV

The blue and pink bathroom...
The hall bathroom was a tricky color combination to work around. My mother-in-law treated us to two rolls of fabulous wallpaper which I 'hung' with thumbtacks. It's amazing what wallpaper can do to a small space!! Our rug (that was previously in our hallway) is the perfect length of the bathroom.
"Tis she who makes your home sweet home, Your life's most precious Pearl"
The vanity stool tucks under the counter and doubles as a spot for guests to do makeup and for me to sit while I give P a bath. The old heaters aren't in use so I tucked a piece of grasscloth behind and now it's a bookshelf!
The master bathroom...
There isn't much wall space to cover in ours, so I hung art and called it a day!!
